POSITION PURPOSE
The Machinist, 1st Class is responsible for manual fabrication of parts and mechanical assembly of new machines, as well as repairing of parts and equipment designed and built to NY Engineering department specifications. The Machinist ensures proper functioning of equipment and parts when released to Production department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:
-Manual, hands-on parts fabrication, assembling of machinery and parts, fixtures and components for packaging, converting and related manufacturing equipment
-Supports and assists Production department with technical expertise.
-Fabrication, repair and maintenance of production machine parts on an as required basis
-Assists Production and Maintenance departments with repair of equipment.
-Continually seeks improvements in the fabrication process as well as the production machinery.
-Supports a regular and consistent clean-up time on a weekly basis.
-Also supports Liquid Dept. and Warehouse with repair to damaged equipment.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
The ability to work with blueprints
Assembly of machinery and machine components.
Ability to use all machine shop tools for fabrication of parts.
Basic knowledge of CNC machine operation.
Basic knowledge of feature cam.
Minimal supervision from the engineering manager and mechanical engineer.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
Trade School Diploma
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Manual welding, drilling & tapping
Setup and operation of conventional lathe
Setup and operation of conventional Milling machine
Surface grinders
Cutting & bending sheet metal
Torque settings of various fasteners
Shop safety
Basic math skills
Bearing fitting and blueprint reading
Setup and drawing using feature cam of CNC milling machines
Setup and operation of CNC lathe
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in manual parts fabrication and assembly using all the above equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to move bilaterally right and left
Must be able to stand up to 7 hours per/day
Must be able to walk continuously to service machinery
Must be able to bend, squat, kneel as needed
Must be able to lift to 50 pounds
Must be steady on the foot
Must be able to handle and grasp up to 50 pounds
