This edition of Yard Work highlights significant new capital investments from the State of New York as well as continued growth of our vibrant tenant base. A recent capital grant of $15 million from the NYS Senate and $1 million from the Empire State Development Corporation will facilitate the construction of a 220,000 square foot Green Manufacturing Center to help meet the strong demand for space at the Yard. The Senate commitment will also propel the Brooklyn Navy Yard Center at Building 92 (BNYC92), an exhibition and visitors' center, into construction this fall.
As we plan for this growth and seek additional funding opportunities, BNYDC is also pleased to announce a recent grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, a distinguished recognition of the progress of the BNYC92 project. BNYC92 is central to BNYDC's efforts to expand the public's understanding of the rich history of the Yard and its ongoing redevelopment as a national model for sustainable industrial parks. We encourage you to tour the Yard on one of our ongoing public tours.

BNYDC Raises the Bar for MWBE and Local Workforce Goals |

The Perry Building under construction |
With multiple major development projects underway in the Yard, BNYDC has actively sought Minority, Women and Locally-Owned business opportunities as well as local workforce opportunities. On the recent Perry Building project, the nation's first multi-tenanted, multi-level green building which was completed in spring of 2009, BNYDC awarded 40% of total contract dollar value to MWBEs and 17% of the workforce was hired locally.
BNYDC recently hosted a briefing with local elected officials, community leaders, MWBE and LBE contractors and associations as well as local workforce organizations to discuss upcoming opportunities at Building 92. For more information on opportunities at Building 92, please contact Carlos Espinell.
