A Brooklyn Navy Yard-based food business is seeking an Assistant Manager – Front of House. The brand is an elevated tech-enabled multi-brand fast casual offering – creating groundbreaking culinary creations by leveraging unique partnerships with online celebrity chefs.

The company sell food through multiple access points, including onsite retail at our two NYC stores (Brooklyn and Manhattan), wholesale and catering operations, and a completely unique web experience. We are a high growth company seeking an ambitious Front Of House Assistant Manager for our Manhattan location–with a proven track record of terrific customer service, an energetic, collaborative work style, thoughtful organization, technical aptitude, and a holistic team mentality.

As our Front Of House Assistant Manager you will be responsible for being the frontline interacting with our diverse customers as we quickly ramp up sales at our fast-growing Manhattan location. Your role will include planning, messaging, managing, and collaborating effectively with our Kitchen Manager, chefs, and back of house staff designed strategy of your assigned Hungry House kitchen. You display operational excellence and attention to detail and will be responsible for setting an example of our company culture in the kitchen, strengthening the kitchen team members – as individuals and as a team, communicating and leading the execution of new initiatives/campaigns/menu launches, cooking, maintaining and upholding quality standards, scheduling, sanitation and food safety guidelines, and daily ordering and inventory management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Instruct, educate, and enthuse customers at the Front Of House of our restaurants with infectious energy and world-class customer service

  • Manage Front Of House customer order flow and receipt of payments
  • Ensure timely flow of food preparation to ensure swift fulfillment of orders–get customers their food on time and leave no customer behind
  • Manage and participate in daily kitchen prep as needed, delegating tasks and ensuring daily prep needs are met
  • Maintain and uphold high quality standards using recipes and SOPs
  • Lead shift teams every day and when asked, by providing direction on daily kitchen tasks and culinary improvement as necessary
  • Flexibility to assist across all kitchen areas and stations
  • Maintain DOH grade of A and enforce and improve sanitation standards; maintain a clean walk-in and ensure all team members are following cleaning standards
  • Manage production of catering and wholesale orders ensuring items are packaged and labeled correctly, making sure our customers are satisfied
  • Act as on-site point-of-contact for external partners for order confirmation and pick-up coordination (e.g. corporate catering partners)
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers and lead by example Supervisory, leadership, management and coaching skills built on humility, first-hand experience, and empathy
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

  • Minimum 2-3 years of progressive culinary/kitchen management experience
  • Expert understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures
  • Positive attitude – especially under pressure – and collaborate with and motivate other team members to tackle priorities
  • A team-oriented focus: you have a deep appreciation for the people you work with and help to support the restaurant’s success
  • Conformity to the highest standards of personal integrity and ethical behavior
  • Experience cooking at and managing a: Quick-serve or fast casual restaurant – high desirable High volume, complex food service operations – highly desirable Multi-unit restaurant company – highly desirable Extensive catering experience, a plus
  • Food Protection Certificate – preferred but not required
  • Degree in Culinary Arts or culinary certificate and proven experience in cooking and hospitality, a plus
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation
  • Proficient computer skills including Gmail and Google Suite programs as well as ability to pick up new operational technology platforms quickly, such as time clock, recipe, and inventory management apps–desire to learn more about technology
  • Ability to jump into a fast-paced culinary environment
  • Strong attention to detail and creative problem-solving
  • A desire for growth; actively raises hand for new challenges and projects to help the company grow and out of a general curiosity and hunger to expand one’s knowledge
  • Openness to feedback as a tool for personal development
  • Flexible and long hours sometimes required: Mon-Fri to start; potential for rotating work schedule that may include nights and weekends in the future
