Salary: $65,000 - $75,000

This is a hybrid role based in Brooklyn, NY (3 days/week in-office)

 

Summary 

The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is a not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, the City of New York. BNYDC strives to provide an environment in which innovative companies can take root and grow. 

The Associate Construction Project Manager is responsible for managing a diverse set of construction projects currently in the Yard’s $300M ten-year capital budget. 

Areas of Responsibility 
  • Support senior management during the planning and implementation of new projects and provide regular reports on project progress  
  • Direct all aspects of project management including planning, budget and scope development, vendor procurement, program management and oversight, design and/or construction management, and project closeout 
  • Work with managers to proactively manage issues around design, budget and timeline – preventing problems when possible and making recommendations for solutions 
  • Maintain project cost, schedule controls, and related documentation 
  • Process vendor invoices and change orders  
  • Assist with procurements, including preparation of Request for Proposals and/or Request for Bids, coordination of the evaluation process, preparation of contract documents, and implementation of strategies for achieving more comprehensive and efficient solicitations 
  • Support management of architects, engineers, construction managers, general contractors, sub-contractors and tenants 
  • Work with the Finance Department to track program/project data and report on progress for all capital projects 
  • Work with the Leasing Department to coordinate the proposed work to ensure clear communication and minimize tenant conflicts  
  • Maintain accurate and complete department files, both electronically and in hard copy. 
  • Perform other tasks and ad-hoc projects as assigned 
Required Skills and Abilities 
  • Strong background in project management and construction management 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools  
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and construction management software preferred 
  • Knowledge of NYC Construction Codes and permitting process preferred 
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of a project – externally with City agencies and other local, state and Federal oversight agencies, consultants, contractors and tenants, and internally with the other departments within BNYDC 
  • Ability to proactively manage projects against tight timelines 
  • Strong sense of initiative with respect to resolving issues and fulfilling job duties 
  • Detail-oriented and ability to think creatively 
Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or similar degree in a related field 
  • 1-4 years of experience in planning, managing and coordinating construction projects  
  • Valid Driver’s License preferred
