Summary
The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is the not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, The City of New York (the City). BNYDC constantly strives to provide an environment in which businesses and careers can take root and grow.
The Boiler Mechanic will monitor, maintain, repair, and inspect boilers, geothermal, heat exchangers, steam systems, domestic hot water systems and water treatment. In addition, the Boiler Mechanic will maintain any associated equipment that directly affects the boiler system throughout BNYDC property.
Areas of Responsibility
- Operate, maintain and repair low pressure steam/hot water boilers though out BNYDC buildings.
- Maintain and repair steam equipment such as pipes, traps, pumps, valves, heating coils, tubing, radiators and related equipment
- Install, adjust, inspect, and maintain controls, such as temperature controls, high and low water level controls, solenoid and diaphragm valves, pressure regulating controls and other related controls
- Test, check and adjust controls and equipment for the efficient and safe operation of boilers and heaters
- Completes duty rounds, checklists and corrects deficiencies
- Support in energy saving projects related to steam and hot water system
- Maintain all logbooks associated with boilers, Steam and Geothermal system.
- Monitor and maintain water treatment of closed loop systems for boilers and other related equipment and performing any necessary adjustments to keep the system under efficient operating conditions
- Responds to tenant concerns related to heating equipment
- Work with service provider on performing annual maintenance and repairs as necessary
- Work with BNYDC Plumbers and Electricians as needed
- Use hand or power tools to perform tasks necessary to replace defective equipment
- Operate in code compliance with NYFD and DOB guidelines
- Perform other duties pertinent to the maintenance of the Complex, as assigned

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or trade school preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with low pressure boilers and steam/hot water systems
- Valid Driver’s License required
- Solid understanding of low-pressure boiler operation and maintenance procedures
- Solid knowledge of relevant NYFD and DOB guidelines
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform tasks that may require bending, kneeling, or standing for extended periods
