Salary: $70,000 - $75,000

This is a hybrid role based in Brooklyn, NY (3 days/week in-office)

 

Summary

The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is a not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, the City of New York. BNYDC strives to provide an environment in which innovative companies can take root and grow.

The Grants Manager will serve as the primary grant writer and play a key role in coordinating all aspects of the annual grants strategy, including researching, preparing, submitting, and managing grant proposals/reports that support our goals and meet funder guidelines and criteria. They will focus on new and renewal applications and reports, including government, corporate and foundation grants. This position requires strong writing, data analysis, program budgeting, and project management skills, with an emphasis on outcomes measurements.

Areas of Responsibility

Grant Management & Reporting – 50%

  • Monitor and maintain funder reporting schedules and contract requirements
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure deliverables & reporting requirements are met, tracking budgets & program outcomes
  • Provide progress reports and targeted program updates to funders that capture programmatic success
  • Assemble necessary supporting materials such as budget reports and outcomes
  • Request reimbursements and drawdowns as needed
  • Develop presentations for various stakeholders
  • Support the creation of an annual report to be shared with the community at-large
  • Perform other duties and ad-hoc projects as needed

Grant Proposal Development & Submissions- 35%

  • Conduct grant/prospect and fundraising landscape research to inform development strategies, identify funding opportunities, select projects for applications, and prioritize opportunities
  • Research, write, edit, and submit letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and grant reports
  • Prepare budgets and financial reports that meet funder contract requirements
  • Understand BNYDC programs and impact, sharing data & content with donors and prospects. Support programs through quantitative and qualitative writing

Data Management & Administrative Support – 15%

  • Document all prospecting, donation, acknowledgement, and grant activities in management database
  • Maintain master calendar of grants & prospects, and library of supporting documents
  • Perform other duties & ad-hoc projects as needed
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrated ability to research, analyze, and clearly report on datasets and complex information
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple project deadlines
  • Experience working with government, corporate and foundation grant portals
  • Familiarity with national, governmental, and New York City funders
  • Familiarity with budgeting and financial reporting for grants
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy; public administration, law, business administration, journalism, communications, or non-profit management; advanced degree preferred
  • 3-5 years relevant work experience, with proven success in grant writing, obtaining new and renewal grants, and increasing grant awards
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar fundraising database preferred
