A Brooklyn Navy Yard-based customed LED solutions provider is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer. The company is a creative LED video and lighting product design company. They provide innovative design engineering solutions for challenging light and video installations in the built environment. The company’s mission is to help designers and visionaries navigate the landscape of LED technology to inform the creative process and enable the development of design driven bespoke product solutions. By operating at the intersection of design, engineering, and manufacturing, the company conceptualizes, solves, and delivers turnkey creative LED products for projects around the world.

Job Description:
Your day to day will involve Designing, Modeling, Engineering, Analyzing, and Prototyping various mechanical systems for our innovative product solutions. We’re seeking a team player that can work alongside clients, manufacturing teams, and engineers with a wholehearted, proactive approach to problem solving.

Hybrid / Brooklyn, NY (Brooklyn Navy Yard)

Key Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Design Development and Modeling
    • Use design software to draft concept sketches, 3D models, and block diagrams to support the development of
      project solutions.
    • Host internal and external design reviews with stakeholders to incorporate technical feedback and ensure
      cohesive product development.
    • Manage mechanical CAD systems and models including file management, bill of materials, cost tracking, and
      drawing releases.
    • Build and maintain parametric digital twin 3D models for internal and external stakeholders.
    • Support the ECAD team with integrating PCBA and component parts into the digital twin models.
  • Engineering / Analysis
    • Perform engineering hand calculations and analysis to size structural parts, heatsinks, and other mechanisms.
    • Setup and perform FEAon parts, including static stress and thermal analysis.
    • Execute real-world product testing on manufactured prototypes including structural and thermal tests to validate/
      calibrate FEAand further product development.
    • Create and present analysis reports for clients and project stakeholders.
  • Prototyping/ DFM/ Manufacturing Planning
    • Iteratively develop design solutions using rapid prototyping techniques (3D printing, Rapid CNC, etc.)
    • Collaborate with our manufacturing and procurement team to develop and incorporate DFM feedback.
    • Coordinate quality control checklists and identify key critical part assemblies, tolerances, finishes, etc.
    • Assist in developing and maintaining manufacturing and system drawings for project planning.
    • Assist Project Management team in task development and progress tracking, including project scheduling,
      facilitating part procurement, coordinating technical reviews etc.
    • Assist technical team in executing project solutions including on-site support at suppliers and installation locations.

 

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer or a similar role
  • Proven experience using CAD software with knowledge of Fusion 360 or similar parametric modeling
  • Understanding of Design Systems and their role in product lifecycle management
  • Ability to translate design challenges into actionable solutions.
  • Knowledge of Python 3, Rhino Grasshopper & Vectorworks are a plus
  • Proven experience with MS Office and Adobe Creative suites
  • Good understanding of electrical / mechanical safety standards for LED products a plus
