A Brooklyn Navy Yard-based company is currently seeking a Shipping Supervisor.
Job Summary and Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Shipping Supervisor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operations of the Brooklyn shipping department. This position focuses on guiding the daily flow of shipping activities, coordinating with team members, and maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency in the shipping process.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Leads by example by being the expert in every facet of shipping (packing, traying, boxing).
· Trains and coaches team in all facets of shipping ensuring that all packages are packed accurately with all items accounted for and packed safely to avoid breakage/spoilage; maintaining accuracy and consistency of all processes as directed by Managers.
· Works to minimize shipping errors (missed, incorrect items, poorly packed/leaky items and boxes, etc.) with all members of the team: double checks one’s own work and the teams to catch mistakes.
· Oversees and guides daily shipping operations, ensuring timely and accurate fulfillment of orders; delegating tasks to teammates. Works with Management team to assign position responsibilities, especially during the busiest times of the year.
· Monitors the Goldbelly merchant dashboard; able to assign orders, print and sort labels, print inventory lists.
· Communicates with the Production Manager/team daily on what items are needed that day, that week, and for the next week.
· Creates prep lists 2-3 days in advance to ensure the shipping team is always ahead of schedule with prep needs.
· Checks product inventory daily. Communicates inventory levels to Managers so orders can be placed as needed. Special attention paid to shipping materials (boxes, tape, bubble wrap, ice gel materials etc) and standard packages (brunches, nostalgias, medleys, etc.)
· Works with team to clean, stock/restock, and break down shipping station throughout and (in particular) at end of shift leaving space clean, stocked, and ready for next shift.
· Ensures raw and finished product freshness; maintains Julian dating and product rotation.
· Covers driving delivery routes as necessary; exhibits and executes excellent driving performance obeying all traffic rules.
· Possesses a positive attitude and works in cooperation with all co-workers efficiently and effectively.
· Performs any additional assigned related duties.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Basic understanding of or the ability to learn basic sanitation and regulations for workplace safety to maintain a spotless personal and general workspace (including all equipment) in compliance with DOH regulation as well as rigorous internal health and cleanliness standards.
· Basic understanding of or the ability to learn food handling techniques, preparation, and cooking procedures using standard recipes.
· Basic understanding of or the ability to learn how to use/operate, maintain, and clean culinary equipment including, but not limited, knives, scales, mixers, ovens, stoves.
· Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
· Ability to work quickly and efficiently.
· Ability to work well as part of a team.
· Ability to maintain personal hygiene, health and safety regulations.
· Ability to communicate with coworkers and kitchen leadership.
Education & Experience:
· High school or vocational school coursework in kitchen basics such as food safety, preferred.
· Prior related experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods of standing and working in a kitchen/bakery.
· Exposure to extreme heat, steam, and cold present in a kitchen/bakery environment.
· Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
· Hours: 6-2PM, Sunday to Thursday.
· Must be able to work weekend, holiday, and periodic extended hours as business needs require.
· Manual dexterity to cut, chop, and mix foods and perform other related tasks.
