Reports To: Senior Director of Maintenance

Salary: $42.89/hour

Schedule:                                Monday-Friday 7:30am-4pm

 

Summary

The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is the not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, The City of New York (the City). BNYDC constantly strives to provide an environment in which businesses and careers can take root and grow.

The Boiler Mechanic will monitor, maintain, repair, and inspect Boilers, Geothermal, Heat Exchangers, Steam systems, Domestic Hot water system and Water treatment. In addition, the Boiler Mechanic will maintain any associated equipment that directly affects the Boiler system throughout BNYDC property.

Areas of Responsibility
  • Operate, maintain, and repair low pressure steam and hot water boilers
  • Maintain and repair steam equipment such as pipes, traps, pumps, valves, heating coils, tubing, and radiators
  • Install and inspect controls for temperature, water levels, pressure regulation, and solenoid and diaphragm valves
  • Completes duty rounds and checklists, correcting deficiencies as needed
  • Support energy saving projects
  • Maintain all logbooks associated with boilers, steam, and geothermal systems
  • Monitor water treatment of closed loop systems
  • Respond to tenant concerns related to heating equipment
  • Work with vendors on performing annual maintenance and repairs as needed
  • Work with BNYDC Plumbers and Electricians as needed
  • Use hand and/or power tools to perform tasks
  • Operate in code compliance with NYFD and DOB guidelines
  • Perform other duties pertinent to the maintenance of the complex as assigned
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and diagrams
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • Ability to use hand & power tools and work from a ladder
  • Basic technological proficiency and ability to learn internal systems
  • Solid understanding of low-pressure boiler operation and maintenance procedures
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical work
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or trade school preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with low pressure boilers and steam/hot water systems
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Solid knowledge of relevant NYFD and DOB guidelines
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform tasks that may require bending, kneeling, or standing for extended periods
