Job Title: CNC Lead

Employment Status: Full-Time

Salary: $30 - $35p/h

A Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation employer partner is seeking an experienced CNC Operator proficient in Laguna CNC machinery and operating systems to support high-quality custom fabrication projects. This role requires hands-on expertise, strong material knowledge, and the ability to work efficiently in a NYC fabrication shop. 

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with designers, fabricators, and project managers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up, operate, and maintain Laguna CNC routers and related equipment

  • Load, verify, and execute CNC programs (G-code or Laguna-specific interfaces)

  • Interpret shop drawings, CAD files, and cut sheets accurately

  • Select appropriate tooling, feeds, and speeds for wood, plywood, MDF, plastics, and composite materials

  • Perform machine calibration, tool changes, and basic troubleshooting

  • Inspect finished parts for quality, accuracy, and consistency

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area

  • Communicate proactively with shop leadership regarding production issues, improvements, or material concerns

  • Assist with workflow optimization and repeatable production processes

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of hands-on CNC operating experience, preferably in a fabrication or millwork shop

  • Direct experience with Laguna CNC machines and control software (required)

  • Strong understanding of CNC tooling, fixturing, and material behavior

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and CAD files

  • Comfortable working independently and meeting tight production deadlines

  • Strong attention to detail and quality control

  • Authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in NYC-based fabrication or production environments

  • Familiarity with VCarve, Fusion 360, Aspire, or similar CAM software

  • Millwork, furniture, or architectural fabrication background

  • Ability to assist with light programming edits or setup optimization

  • Forklift or shop equipment experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods

  • Lift up to 100 lbs

  • Work in an active shop environment with dust, noise, and machinery
