Job Title: CNC Operator (Fabrication)

Salary: $25/hr.

The Albert C. Wiltshire Employment Center recruits qualified candidates for positions within the Brooklyn Navy Yard, a 300-acre industrial park housing over 400+ businesses within the manufacturing, food, media, technology, and creative fields.
A Brooklyn based custom fabrication shop is seeking a full-time temporary CNC Operator.
The CNC Operator is an avid and experienced Machine Operator in the CNC Department. This position is devoted to learning and completing assigned tasks and daily department operations. The CNC Operator receives cut files and materials to cut and label parts for assembly on the CNC machines according to the production schedule and department goals. The CNC Operator collaborates with other department members to safely and efficiently complete the scope of work assigned to them.
Below is a more detailed description of this work:
  • Reviews assigned tasks & reports back to the Programmers and/or Department Manager with questions, comments, and concerns
  • Proficient in CNC Machine operations: Vacuum pumps, dust collection, machine interfaces, and monitoring, tracking, and labeling cut lists
  • Proficient in CNC machines mechanicals, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs
  • Oversees the dust collection operations: Power, changing bags, and maintenance.
  • Exhibits strong knowledge of wood, metal, and plastic-based engineered sheet goods in addition to CNC router bits, abrasives, and knives
  • Trains on all CNC Department machines, equipment, and tools
  • Trains on waterjet
  • Assists in moving and building elements through production departments
  • Strives to operate safely and efficiently on all shop machines, equipment, and electric/pneumatic tools
  • Demonstrates keen attention to detail and thoroughness
  • Forecasts and communicates task completion timelines for a given project(s) to the Lead Programmer and/or Department manager
  • Ensures the cut list is fulfilled, cross-checked, organized, labeled, and safe to hand off to the next step in the production
  • Observes and demonstrates safe and efficient operating practices and tool use.
Requirements:
  • 2-3 years of CNC operation (Loading material, changing tooling, running programs, routine machine maintenance)
  • Familiarity with a variety of sheet goods (Plywood, MDF, Acrylic, Foam, etc)
  • Knowledge of router bits (Different bits are used)
