Job Title: Manufacturing Facilities Assistant

Employment Status: Part-Time

Salary: $25 p/h

A Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation employer partner is seeking a Manufacturing Facilities Assistant for hands-on support for material production and facility tasks on a flexible, project-by-project basis. Ideal for skilled, self-directed individuals comfortable with hand tools and measuring tools, lab procedures, and workshop environments.

Scope of Work Includes:
-Fabricating parts and mixing materials using a variety of materials (e.g., composites, polymers, resins, and metals) according to detailed prototype specifications.
-Preparing molds for casting – including cleaning, treating, and modifying mold surfaces.
-Using shop equipment, including drill presses, band saws, sanding machines, and hand tools, for cutting, shaping, or modifying parts.
-Collaborating with design and engineering teams to refine part designs for manufacturability and tooling efficiency.
-Measuring and weighing materials with precision using scales, measuring cups, and other lab-grade equipment to maintain consistency and ensure batch quality.
-Tracking batch information, curing times, and material performance as part of quality control and process documentation., and performing routine checks and calibrations on equipment to maintain operational integrity and accuracy.
-Assisting in pilot assembly of prototypes or pre-production units, which may involve bonding, fastening, wiring, or testing components.
-Preparing components or finished parts for shipping by packing materials securely, labeling items correctly, and maintaining inventory records.

Requirements:
-Reliable, organized, and able to work independently.
-Demonstrates hands-on experience in a workshop, fabrication lab, or manufacturing environment, preferably involving small-scale or prototype production.
-Proficiency in using hand tools (e.g., files, screwdrivers, pliers), power tools (e.g., drills, grinders, sanders), and shop equipment (e.g., band saws, drill presses, belt sanders).
-Familiarity with basic fabrication techniques such as cutting, shaping, sanding, drilling, bonding, or assembly of parts and materials.
