A Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation employer partner is seeking an Installation Service Technician.
Position Overview:
This role is primarily responsible for the onsite installation, assembly, and testing of smart locker systems at client locations throughout New York City. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, comfortable with hand and power tools, and capable of troubleshooting basic technical systems. Strong customer service and communication skills are essential, as this role requires direct client interaction.
Key Responsibilities:
· Safely transport tools and equipment to client sites throughout NYC.
· Install, assemble, and secure smart locker systems at client locations (indoor and outdoor).
· Use hand and power tools to perform installation tasks including:
· Bolting locker modules together.
· Drilling mounting holes into concrete, brick, or block surfaces.
· Connecting pre-made wiring harnesses to the control board.
· Test locker system functionality, ensuring software, hardware, and tablet interfaces work properly after installation.
· Follow safety protocols and company installation procedures at all times.
· Work independently or as part of a team to complete installations on schedule.
· Provide onsite customer support, and ensure excellent customer satisfaction.
· Document installation details, including photos, completed work reports, and any issues encountered.
· Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicle in proper working condition.
· Support other company operations as needed, reflecting the flexibility required in a startup environment.
· Perform preventive maintenance by returning to sites to inspect, adjust, and maintain locker systems when needed.
· Troubleshoot and repair locker systems for warranty or service calls.
· Assist with inventory control, tracking locker modules, parts, and tools used for installations.
· Offer feedback to engineering and operations teams to improve installation efficiency and product design.
Required Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent (technical training preferred).
· 1–3 years of experience in installation, construction, electrical, or related field.
· Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 75 lbs).
· Proficiency with common hand and power tools (drills, impact drivers, wrenches, etc.).
· Basic electrical and mechanical aptitude; able to connect pre-configured wiring connections and troubleshoot minor technical issues.
· Basic computer/tablet skills; familiarity with software installation and system testing.
· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
· Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
· Strong customer service orientation with a professional, courteous demeanor.
· Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience with commercial equipment installation (e.g., vending machines, kiosks, appliances, lockers).
· Bilingual skills in Spanish, Mandarin, or another language common to New York City.
· Prior experience in a startup or fast-paced environment.
