Job Title: Lead Fabricator

A Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation employer partner is seeking Advanced Lead Fabricator to join their team. The Advanced Lead Fabricator is a highly skilled fabrication professional with extensive experience working across multiple materials, including metal, wood, plastics, and CNC-machined components. This individual will serve as a technical leader within the shop, overseeing fabrication activities, coordinating workflows, and ensuring quality standards are met throughout the production process.
The ideal candidate brings at least 10 years of hands-on fabrication experience, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven ability to manage schedules, budgets, and shop floor operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee fabrication projects from concept through completion.
- Fabricate, assemble, and finish projects using a variety of materials, including metal, wood, plastics, and composite materials.
- Operate and troubleshoot fabrication equipment, including CNC machines and other shop tools.
- Direct daily shop floor activities, assigning work and monitoring project progress.
- Manage production schedules to ensure deadlines are achieved.
- Coordinate labor, materials, and resources to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Monitor project budgets and assist with cost control efforts.
- Train, mentor, and support fabricators and shop personnel.
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety standards and shop best practices.
- Collaborate with project managers, designers, engineers, and clients to solve fabrication challenges.
- Conduct quality inspections and ensure finished products meet specifications and client expectations.
- Identify process improvements and implement best practices to enhance shop performance.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 10 years of fabrication experience in a professional shop environment.
- Advanced knowledge of fabrication techniques involving metal, wood, plastics, and CNC manufacturing processes.
- Proven experience leading teams, supervising shop personnel, or managing fabrication operations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience managing project schedules, timelines, and budgets.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and fabrication plans.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
Additional Requirements:
- Experience in custom fabrication, exhibit fabrication, experiential marketing, scenic fabrication, architectural fabrication, or specialty manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM software and CNC programming.
- Forklift, rigging, welding, or other relevant certifications.
- Project management experience within a fabrication or manufacturing setting.
