This is a hybrid position based in Brooklyn, NY – 3 days/week in office required.
Summary
The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is a non-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, the City of New York. BNYDC strives to provide an environment in which innovative companies can take root and grow.
The Manager of Youth & Public Programs will develop and lead initiatives to engage school-aged New Yorkers and the public with the Brooklyn Navy Yard. As part of BNYDC’s Public Engagement Department, which attracts over 100,000 visitors annually, this role will expand access to the Yard, promote STEAM fields, and highlight Yard-based businesses through integrated programming. Responsibilities include program ownership and building partnerships to align initiatives with our mission of connecting industry, culture, and community.
Areas of Responsibility
Program Development & Delivery
- Define goals, strategies and KPIs for youth and public programs
- Develop a robust calendar of public events and activities, with the aim of attracting 20,000+ visitors annually (10,000 youth, 10,000+ general public)
- Project manage programs from concept to delivery, and troubleshoot challenges as they arise
- Develop budgets, proposals, briefings, etc. and ensure projects/programs are delivered on time and within budget
- Collect, analyze, and report data on program impact and participant feedback to inform future decision-making
- Adapt content for various age groups and community segments ensuring accessibility, inclusivity, and alignment with industry trends
Outreach & Growth
- Develop and implement engagement strategies to expand audience reach and attendance
- Establish and maintain partnerships with schools, Yard businesses, and community organizations to foster collaboration and program participation
- Collaborate with External Affairs and Grants & Fundraising teams to develop promotional campaigns and identify funding/sponsorship opportunities
- Represent BNYDC at external events, conferences, and networking opportunities
- Stay informed of industry trends, education initiatives, and community outreach strategies
Oversight/Administrative
- Manage a Program Coordinator, providing guidance and professional development support
- Supervise program volunteers and staff
- Support vendor management, procurement, and event planning efforts
- Ensure all program documentation is organized and updated
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, delegate, and manage multiple projects on tight timelines
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a team-based environment
- Detail-oriented and strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to engage with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to track progress, analyze data, and adjust strategies based on insights
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools
- Commitment to BNYDC’s mission of supporting innovation in manufacturing, design, and technology
Qualifications
- 5-7+ years of experience in designing, implementing and managing mid- to large-scale youth and public programs, or related fields such as education and events management
- 3+ years of experience managing staff and leading cross-functional initiatives
- 2+ years of experience managing program budgets and supporting revenue generation
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
- Professional or educational background in a STEM/STEAM field preferred
- Experience creating and executing outreach campaigns
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required for events and program delivery
- Ability to perform event setup tasks, including lifting/moving up to 50 pounds
