A Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation employer partner is seeking a builder and crew leader to help execute the installation of urban landscaped spaces. The Installer position sits within Brooklyn Grange’s Design/Build/Maintenance department – which is charged with the design, construction, and maintenance of varied green spaces. Key
responsibilities of the Installer include onsite construction of landscaping and hardscaping, execution of construction related drawings, and crew management and oversight.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with the Design/Build/Maintenance team to establish project
timelines and installation schedules
● Execute on-site problem solving and best practices; be comfortable identifying potential issues and raising up questions to ensure successful and safe project installation
● Complete installations efficiently, in keeping with project timelines, budgets, and construction documents
● Perform material/tool inventory; undertake plant runs, tool restocking, and vehicle load-ins and loadouts
● Maintain orderly and safe workspaces
● Perform other work as needed, including infrastructural/facility projects at our off-site Brooklyn locations
REQUIREMENTS:
Has 1-2 years of experience installing landscaping and/or hardscaping
● Can read, understand, and follow construction documents
● Has high level of experience with a range of construction materials and techniques
● Is an experienced builder, has knowledge of general assembly techniques, is comfortable operating light machinery and power tools; has carpentry skills
● Is positive, energetic, and has a strong work ethic; can lead, motivate, and set pace for crew members
● Is organized, and has strong communication skills
● Holds a valid driver’s license and is comfortable driving large vehicles in the city.
● Can lift 50 lbs. repeatedly, and can squat, kneel, bend over, and reach for extended periods of time; can undertake the repeated physical labor of landscaping work required of the position.
● Has attended a minimum of OSHA 30 hour training sessions, and holds an additional 10 hours of SST training (total 40 hours Site Safety Training required prior to start date)
