Job Title: Cybersecurity Intern

A Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation employer partner is seeking a Cybersecurity Intern. This internship is designed for students or recent graduates who are eager to gain hands-on experience in cybersecurity. You will work alongside our IT and security teams to learn and implement best practices for securing servers, networks, and applications in a healthcare environment.
Our company is a full-service medical laboratory dedicated to providing accurate and timely diagnostic services. As we continue to strengthen our IT infrastructure, we are seeking a Cybersecurity Intern to assist in protecting our systems, data, and applications from cyber threats.
Responsibilities
- Assist in monitoring and maintaining the security of servers, networks, and applications.
- Help identify vulnerabilities and participate in remediation efforts.
- Support the implementation of security tools and controls (firewalls, antivirus, SIEM).
- Assist in auditing access and permissions for applications and infrastructure.
- Participate in security awareness initiatives and documentation of procedures.
- Learn to respond to security incidents and assist with investigations under guidance.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Basic understanding of networking, operating systems, and security principles.
- Familiarity with security tools (antivirus, firewalls, intrusion detection, SIEM) is a plus.
- Knowledge of scripting or programming (Python, Bash, PowerShell) is helpful.
- Strong problem-solving skills and curiosity about security threats.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly.
