Brooklyn Navy Yard, NYCEDC Seek Design Partner for Life Sciences/Med-Tech & Green Economy Innovation Spaces at BNY303

BNYDC, NYCEDC Seek Qualified Firm for Building 303’s 9th Floor, Underscoring NYC’s Commitment to Deep Tech Innovation

NEW YORK, September 19, 2025 – The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC), in partnership with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), is seeking proposals from experienced design firms to provide architectural and engineering services for the redevelopment of the 9th floor of Building 303 at the Navy Yard. BNYDC is seeking a dynamic design partner to provide high-quality space for tenants in deep tech sectors, like life sciences and green economy, adding to BNYDC’s advanced manufacturing ecosystem and building on NYCEDC and the City’s wider efforts to support job creation and innovation. A Request for Proposals (RFP) has been issued and can be accessed here.

Since the mid-2000s, Brooklyn Navy Yard has undergone significant growth, fueled by the renovation of many of the site’s historic buildings. Initially intended for a single office user, the 9th floor of Building 303 is the last remaining industrial space to fit out in this complex. BNYDC secured funding from NYCEDC in 2024 to subdivide and build out the current space for BNYDC to lease it to companies that are in need of small and medium sized suites and that are primed to advance efforts to grow New York City’s deep tech sectors.

The project entails subdividing the entire floor into eight white-box suites, the fit-out of one office space, one specialized R&D suite designed to accommodate either a med-tech/device/life sciences wet lab or an advanced manufacturing clean room, and a shared amenities area. BNYDC and NYCEDC encourage Locally Based Enterprises (LBEs) and Minority- and Women-Owned Businesses (MWBEs) to respond to the RFP, as well as to participate as subconsultants. Each respondent must indicate in its proposal whether it, or any proposed subconsultants, qualifies as an LBE or MWBE.

“We are excited to be transforming the 9th Floor of Building 303 into a dynamic hub that offer critical ‘step-out’ expansion space for high-growth companies working on cutting-edge medical devices and med-tech, advanced manufacturing, and climate solutions,” said Lindsay Greene, President and CEO of the Brooklyn Navy Yard. “Facilitating growth for small and young businesses is central to the Yard’s mission of advancing innovation, growth, and community simultaneously. We look forward to supporting the creation of next generation products and helping to match talented New Yorkers with open roles at these growing companies.”

“This announcement marks a critical milestone in transforming Brooklyn Navy Yard Building 303 into a leading center of life science and green economy innovation, further cementing New York City as a preeminent global leader in deep tech industries,” said NYCEDC President & CEO Andrew Kimball.  “As New York City advances its vision for a ‘Harbor of the Future’ – a reimagining of the City’s waterfronts to unlock economic growth and innovation – the Brooklyn Navy Yard, which is already home to key life sciences and deep tech companies, is the ideal location for NYCEDC and BNYDC to develop cutting-edge spaces that support companies as they scale.”
