A Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation employer partner is seeking a Skilled Pattern Maker – Product Manager. We are a high-quality manufacturing company specializing in medical and pressure relief products, including cushions and custom textile solutions. Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Pattern Maker with deep, old-school sewing knowledge and the ability to manage complex product development processes. This role requires both hands-on craftsmanship and project management expertise to take products from concept or customer specification to finished, approved items ready for shipment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Customer-Driven Product Development:
Receive and fully understand customer specifications.
Translate specs into hand-drafted patterns or digital formats in collaboration with the digitizer.
Ensure the correct fabrics, foams, and other materials are available for production.
Oversee sewing operators to guarantee proper execution of the design.
Inspect and approve the finished product for quality before it ships to the customer.
2. Management-Driven Product Creation:
Take management’s product vision or ideas and develop new patterns and prototypes.
Apply expert knowledge of sewing, textiles, and foam behavior to create functional and aesthetically pleasing designs.
Collaborate with production, materials, and digitizing teams to turn prototypes into production-ready products.
Monitor the production process, ensuring consistency, quality, and efficiency.
3. General Responsibilities:
Maintain detailed documentation of patterns, specifications, and production notes.
Identify challenges in the production process of new products and propose solutions.
Mentor and guide team members to uphold craftsmanship and quality standards.
Requirements:
Extensive hands-on experience in traditional pattern making for garments, cushions, or similar textile products.
Minimum of 5–7 years of pattern-making experience; 10+ years preferred for candidates with full end-to-end production experience.
Expert sewing skills and deep understanding of fabric and foam behavior.
Proven project management experience—able to guide products from concept/specification to finished goods.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
Spanish fluency a plus.
Prior experience in a manufacturing or production environment is a plus.
