A Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation employer partner is seeking a Steel Worker to join their team. The Steel Worker will perform layout, fabrication, installation, testing, and repair of shipyard or vessel welding projects. They will perform essential duties and responsibilities personally or through coordination with production and safety departments in our Brooklyn, New York location.
The ideal candidate will operate accessory equipment and perform tasks necessary for welding metal, such as fusing metal segments, using gas tungsten arc, metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, and other types of welding arcs. Applicants must be proficient in welding Aluminum, Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel. Experience with Non-Destructive Examination is a plus. Candidates should have experience with reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Good interpersonal skills are required. Strong oral and written communication skills; a minimum of five to seven years of related experience and/or training within a marine setting; or the combination of education and experience that enables performance of all aspects of the position. Possession of AWS and/or NDT certifications a plus. Use of personal protective equipment such as respirators, hard hats and safety footwear is required while on work sites. Work will involve visiting work sites both indoors and outdoors at all times of the year.
