Brooklyn Navy Yard Wayfinding has arrived! By fall 2026, the Yard will be easier to navigate for your guests and deliveries through improved signage and updated building numbers, street names, and a new Navy Yard address. Below are some FAQs about what to expect in the next 6-8 months. You can find your new Building numbers and updated maps reflecting the updates here
WHY WAYFINDING?
- If you have ever had to explain to someone why Building 280 is between Building 27 and Building 41, you know that the legacy numbering system was often confusing for vendors and visitors. By implementing an intuitive Wayfinding system, BNYDC aims to improve tenant experience and make it easy for employees, delivery drivers, and visitors to navigate the Yard.
TIMELINE
What is the timeline for the BNYDC Wayfinding Project?
- Start Date: May 2026
- Duration of Project: 6 months (estimated)
- Building number changes have started. Tenants will be notified a few weeks prior to the installation of their new building number signs.
UPDATED BUILDING NUMBERS & ADDRESS
How are the building numbers changing?
- Buildings will be sequentially numbered from 0-400 starting on the Kent Avenue/east side of the Yard moving to the Navy Street/west side of the Yard. For example, if your building is by Kent Avenue, your number will be between 1 and 50. If your building is by Navy Street, your number will be between 300 and 400.
- Buildings 72, 77, 92, 212, and 303 will keep their current building numbers.
- Except for the five buildings listed above, the new numbering system will not contain any existing building numbers.
- Red signs with legacy building numbers (e.g., “Former Building 280”) will be installed at main entrances and other highly visible locations to help with the transition, for an interim 6-month to 1-year period.
Are there any other building numbering improvements?
- Yes! All doors and loading docks have been numbered sequentially. ADA entrances have also been identified.
What is my new building number and address and when can I use it?
- Your new address is 1 Brooklyn Navy Yard, Building X, Suite XXX, Brooklyn, NY 11205.
- BNYDC Legal will send a letter regarding how your new building numbers will be incorporated into your lease.
- You should use your new address after your building number has been changed. Building signage will be added over the summer months. Your property manager will notify you 2 weeks prior to the install at your building.
What are the recommended steps to prepare for this change?
- Communicate to your staff that this transition is coming, as well as frequent visitors and delivery drivers.
- Update your address on your website, social media, and any other platforms.
- Update your address on recurring deliveries and orders.
- Contact your account representatives for your utilities (i.e. internet, gas, bank).
- Communicate with your insurance provider that your address is changing.
UPDATED STREET NAMES
How are street names changing?
- Primary Driving Route: The primary driving route through campus, running continuously from the Kent Gate to the Sands Gate, will be renamed Navy Yard Drive (see the new Map).
- Intersecting Streets: To continue the east to west numerical orientation, all intersecting streets with Navy Yard Drive will begin with 1st Row (easternmost street) and end with 13th Row (westernmost street).
- Morris Avenue’s name will not change.
DELIVERIES
What should I tell my delivery drivers?
- If you or your vendors use in-house drivers or another entity (e.g., not USPS, UPS, DHL, FedEx or Amazon), we recommend that you inform them of your address change and provide them to the appropriate door or dock number. They can also request a map at the gate upon entering the Yard.
How long will I be able to have my packages delivered to my old address?
- For about 6 months after your building number changes, Millenium, BNY’s campus mail provider, will support all deliveries to legacy addresses.
- We are coordinating with USPS and our on-campus mail distributor, as well as working with FedEx, UPS, DHL, and Amazon. All drivers will be offered a map at the entrance gate if needed to support their successful delivery to you. Online sources, like Waze and Google Maps, will be updated to reflect the new building numbers after June 2026.
